Artist Statement:

Seshadev Sagria's multidisciplinary practice examines the intersections of caste, labour, medicine, mythology, and indigenous systems of knowledge. Rooted in long-term engagement with his village, his research unfolds through collaborative and site-responsive methodologies that position community members as active participants in the production of knowledge.

Drawing upon local histories surrounding agriculture, disease, the body, tools, and social hierarchies, Sagria constructs speculative assemblages that blur the boundaries between scientific inquiry, ethnography, folklore, and mythology. His installations question the authority of institutional knowledge by proposing alternative narratives that emerge from lived experience and vernacular epistemologies.

Through immersive environments, performative objects, wearable structures, and theatrical installations, he invites audiences into fragmented worlds where medical illustrations, bodily transformations, and agricultural practices intersect. His work considers how caste politics and health histories have evolved together, exposing the invisible mechanisms through which power is embodied, inherited, and reproduced.
