Sayantan Samanta holds an MFA from Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, and a BFA in Sculpture from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. His practice has been shaped through research engagements, residencies including Piramal Art, and a solo supported by the Korean Embassy in New Delhi. Recent recognitions include the CIMA special mention, MASH India award, and the Art for Hope award, alongside participation in the Venice Biennale Collage (2024) and a residency at Space Studio, Baroda.
Rooted in a generational farming lineage, Samanta's work examines the ecological, social, and cultural consequences of human intervention in natural systems. Working across sculpture, drawing, and installation, he explores climate change, land degradation, and displacement through the lens of agrarian life. His practice reflects on disrupted cycles and fragile food systems, positioning art as a form of advocacy that questions extractive development and calls for ecological responsibility and collective survival.
