Poushali Das

For artist Poushali Das Indian miniature paintings stand for religious harmony through their multiculturalism. The current scenario of discrimination and orchestrated violence has made her realise the profoundness of love and compassion. Hence, she finds solace in the mysticism of Sufism and Baul traditions of Bengal and her works evidently reflect that. She has been exploring the techniques of Tempera painting on various surfaces such as paper, wood and ‘muga’ silk for quite some time now.

After completing BFA (2002) from Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan she enrolled in the M. S. University, Baroda and received the Master’s degree in 2004. Since then she has been exhibiting her works in some of the leading art galleries in India with five solo shows to her credit. In 2017, she received a research fellowship from the Musashino Art University, Japan. Poushali lives and works in Vadodara, Gujarat.
